The Inn Between in Salt Lake City is one of America’s first hospices specifically for people who are homeless. Its mission is to ensure that those who are terminally ill don’t die alone or on the streets. The building, now located in what was an assisted living center, first opened in 2015 in a former convent. Prior to The Inn Between, there was no adequate solution for housing terminally ill and medically frail homeless people. Salt Lake City typically has 50 people die on the streets every year.
